HAMILTON, this day

The Hamilton Borough Council last night decided to get their engineer to report on the drainage scheme, to urge the Government to acquire farm lands in the neighbourhood for purposes of close settlement, and take over the Assets Board property in this district for settlement under the Land for Settlement Act. It was. resolved to hold a public meeting in connection with the arranging for Coronation celebration; also to ask -Mr Metcalfe to, proceed- with the water works at once- Mr Metcalfe submitted an estimate for a steel bridge to replace the wooden one at Hamilton, at a cost, of £13,640, and an alternative estimate for one of wood and steel to cost £4560. The Council were in favour of a steel bridge throughout. 'A conference of representatives of local bodies interested will be held to consider the matter.
