The opening meet of the Pakuranga Hunt Club will be held on Saturday at Hillside, Owen's Road, Epsom, the residence of the master, Mr E. Dennis O'Rorke, who cordially invites farmers and members to luncheon. The list of fixtures ending May 31st appears at the head of these notes, and it may not be out of place to mention here that the master is desirous that only members, farmers, and farmers' sons and visitors by invitation shall take part in the field at the meets. This is only fair and reasonable. There are by far too many persons who attend the meets who do not contribute in any way towards the maintenance of the sport.

Most of the members of the P.H.C. havfi fallen in with the suggestion of the master and will ride in green coats—a practice that obtained here over 20 years ago. The idea is an excellent' one, as the effect produced' is good and members can thug be readily distinguished. At a recent meeting of the club the master stated that he was determined to put a stop to over-riding the hounds and the larking over fences that sometimes goes on, and hopes to receive the assistance of the members in seeing that tin? rules of the field are carried out

Hunting prospects look particularly good. We have had the right sort of weather for a start. Already half a dozen enjoyable runs have been obtained, and the hounds are in excellent condition, some evidence of this fa<st being established by the number of kills thus early. The huntsman. Mr A. Selby, during the week informed me that three and a-half brace of hares had been accounted for from which it may be concluded that there is no scarcity. The opening meet in the Waikato has been fixed for May Srd, and the followers of *hp Waikato hounds are looking forward to a good season. The meets of the various hunt clubs throughout the colony will be in full swing during the comine month, and at no time in the history of the sport in New Zealand have there SoMI so m any established clubs or fine*; hounds than there are at the present Iff which goes to show that the sport S taken I firm hold; indeed, in tbi. respect New Zealand leads her sister colonies In all there are now some 17 or more distinct clubs in the two islands.
