EXPLANATION BY MR SEDDON.

SYDNEY, April 21

Cablegrams from New Zealand have been published confirming Mr Seddon's statement in reference to the Maoris. The following is the text of his denial, made at the banquet in Sydney:—"Words are put into my mouth I never uttered; words spoken by a Maori chief and used metaphorically years ago. The wor,ds. the Maori chief used) /were: 'In years gone by if we had been allowed to -roam in South Africa the trouble would have been over,! .And when I tell, you the Maoris "In their tribal wars were most generous to their foes I don't think there would be much to fear if they had been allowed, to take part in the South African war."
