SUDDEN DEATH.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
HAMILTON, this day
Mrs Bond, wife of Mr J. S. Bond, proprietor of the Waikato "Times," died suddenly during Saturday night. She went to bed in her usual spirits, accompanied by a little girl. When the latter awoke in the morning she found her mother with her head hanging out of bed. The child was too young- to grasp the situation, but she aroused the older children, who sent for Drs. Brewis and Going, who found life had been extinct for some hours. Mr Bond, for whom great sympathy is felt in his affliction, was in Auckland at the time of the occurrence. A medical certificate gives the cause as heart affection, and no inquest will be held.
The ?*ew Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Tongariro arrived frbni London via Capetown and Hobart yesterday afternoon and anchored in the stream for medical and Customs inspection, after winch she was admitted to pratique and her passengers came ashore in the Presto. The Tongariro, which is under the command of Captain Sutliffe, has made very good time on the voyage out, being a little under four and a half days ahead of time-table date. She brings a. large number of passengers in all classes, the majority being for the South. Throughout the voyage exceptionally fine weather prevailed, and only one gaie was encountered crossing the Southern Ocean. The steamer's cargo consists of over 4000 tons, the work of discharging which was commenced this'morning".
