THE CORONATION.
About twenty Maoris from various parts of the Auckland provincial district have left here for Wellington, where they will go through the process of final selection for the Native Contingent which is to be sent to Engand for the King's Coronation. The latest batch, which left this afternoon by the s.s. Rotoiti from Onehunga, consisted of the following seven young men: —Otene Paul (of Orakei), Meta Karaka, Hone H. Hapere, Huia Eukuwai, Huia Maki, Tirua Tukari, and Te Kare Te Whatu. Of these candidates for the contingent all but the first named are from the Waikato district, and were selected by Mr Henare Kaihau, M.H.E. Otene Paul, who is nominated by his member, Mr Hone Heke, M.H*E., is well known in Auckland. He" is a corporal in the Auckland Mounted Eifles. and has made very smart progress in his soldiering work since he became a volunteer. It is expected that he will get a non-commissioned officer's position, in the.contingent. However, a number of those wlio have gone down from this district must be thrown put ,in Jhe final selection, as those who have left for the Trentham camp exceed the number required by the Government for the contingent.
