MARKET REPORT,
Horses: On Friday at the Durham Yards were yarded in larger numbers than for many weeks past, and good useful sorts were eagerly competed for at late values. We quote: Active draughts up to £40; medium do.. £20 to £29 12/6; light harness horses, £10 10/ to £19 12/6; hacks, £4 10/ to £16 12/6; a spring cart realised £12 10/; roadster, £9 5/. Cattle: At the Newmarket Tiards on Tuesday, fat stock were penned in full numbers, the quality throughout being above the average. Bidding was brisk and prices improved from 1/ to 2/ per 100 lbs on last week's quotations. Steers ranged from 21/ to 25/ per 100 lbs; cows, 18/ to 21/; oxen brought from £5 15/ to £10 17/6; cows. £4 5/ to £3 10/; two or three different drafts of steers averaged over £10 per head. Dairy and store cattle, owing no doubt to the exceptionally wet day, were yarded in less than usual numbers, but those penned met a good sale. Dairy cows sold at from £4 12/ a to £7 7/6; dry do., £2 2/6 to £3 .15/; calves, £1 6/ to £2 4/. •Bheep: The Newmarket Yards were well filled on Tuesday, and prices advanced from 1/ to 2/ per head; fat wethers sold at from 9/6 to 16/6: fat ewes, 6/6 to 14/6; fat lambs, 6/6 to 11/9; store do, 3/ to 'pigs: Porkers sold at from £1 6/ to £2 12/; weaners, 6/6 to 10/9. At Pukekobe on Wednesday, dairy and store stock, were yarded in numbers above the average ,and sold at late rates. Dairy cows from £4 10/ to £6 15/; empty do., £2 5/ to £3 17/6; heifers, £1 15/ to £2 17/6; grown steers, £5 10/ to £6 12/6; fat cattle, at Newmarket rates.
Hides: We submitted a good selection on Tuesday, competition being good. We sold prime' ox at 6iil to 7d; stout. 5Jd to 6id; medium, 4sd to 54d; light. 4d to 4£d; cow, picked, to 4id; bulk, 4id; kips to 'S%d; stags. 2?d. Sheapskins: Prices were fully maintained, except for faulty skins. Large salted brought 2/ to 2/7; small and medium, 1/3 to 1/9; salted lambs, 1/3 to 2/3; dry, 3d to 6d less. Tallow: Best rendered in small packages, 23/ to 24/; seconds do., 20/ to 22/. Horsehair, 1/2 per lb. Tails, 1/8 doren. Bones, 4/6 cwt. Wool: Selling freely at late, rates. Maize: Owing to the extraordinary demand from Australia, the market has gone up 1/ per bushel, at which price all available stocks on the wharf and in the city have been cjeared. We anticipate a further advance on shipments to arrive. Oats: There is-no change to report. Chaff: Owing to the wet weather supplies 'have fallen off. and stocks have gone down, and good competition has ensued for the quantities available, at from £4 10/ to £5, ex store.
