THE RUSSIAN LOAN.
' Sir, —Under the heading "Cable Brevities" it is stated that the recently announced Russian loan of fifteen millions was subscribed a hundredfold, chiefly in Germany—£ls,----000,000 x 100= £1,500,000,000. How the French indemnity of £200,000,000 sterling must* have multiplied itself since '72! Reading between the lines, I should say that the money has been thus freely subscribed by the Fatherland in the hopes that it may be employed as sinews of war in the final appeal against England.—l am, etc.,
SPHINX.
