CENTRAL MISSION ANNIVERSARY.
The services in connection with the fifth anrriver-sary sof Ithe Aiic_h-nd Central Mission were c_ebrated yes*. tea_ay. The acting superintendent, Mr Jas. Wilson, presided, in the absence of the superintendent and founder of the Mission, Mr W. H. Smith, who is on a visit to the Old Country, and the Eev. James Lyall, the ScotJti.-_r American evangelist, preached on all three occasions. The morning service was conducted in the Mission Hail, Albert-street, and the afternoon meeting was held in the Opera House. In the evening the Opera House was crowded, and the Eev. Lyall delivered an impressive address on "Rescued by angels," taking as his text Genesis xix. 15. Speaking on the preservation of Lot from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the preacher dwelt upon the urgency and need for work against and a turning from sin, and closed an eloquent and stirring discourse with an appeal to unbelievers to turn and seek the Lord. An after meeting was held, to which a large number remained. During* the evening Mrs Wood and Mr W. Aspinall sang sacred solos. Alt the various services the mission orchestra, under Mr Mollard, led the -singing, and rendered sacred selections, and .the brass band under Bandmaster Gooch) conducted open-air meetings prior to regular services. Mr Wilson announced that the anniversary tea and public meeting would be. held next Wednesday in the Mission Hall, and throughout the week the Rev. Lyall will continue. .Kis mission. To-morrow-' afternoon a series of Bible-readings will be initiated in- the V.M.C.A. Hall, and on Sunday afternoon next Mr Lyall will gjve an address on "Eternal Punishment."
