EQUITABLE LIFE SOCIETY.
The progress made by the Equitable Life Assurance Society during the last year, according- to the statement published in another column, will be pleasant reading- for the society's members. The assets have reached the large total of £68,960,008, the increase Jior the year being £ 5,508,678. The surplus, or the excess of assets over all liabilities, stands at £14,797,717, having increased by £1,039,973 during 1901. This surplus, the society claims, is largely in excess of that of any other lii'e society in the world, and as it is from this fund that bonuses are paid, those holding1 the society's policies will be gratified to note its position. The assurances now in force total £245,682,651, the increase for the year having been £13,000,350. Great vitality is shown in the new business figures, which during the past twelve months exceeded those of 1900 by £8,088,718, and was introduced during 1901 at the rate of about one million pounds per week. The figures bear testimony to the popularity and progressiveness of the institution.
