WAIHI RACES.

r ._ . WAIHI, Saturday. l.ne Waihi races attracted a large number ot people this afternoon, incluuing a number of visitors, amongst whom were Sir Joseph Ward and party. Mr I hilhps, president of the Olub, announced that the Minister would address the public from Meyer's Hotel verandah at seven, o'clock. The only accident of the day occurred in the Hurdles, Starlight throwing his jockey, McGregor, of the lliumes, at the last hurdle. Dr. Guinness was on the spot at once, but reported no serious injury. Mr R, Newdick gave every satisfaction as judge, as also did the secretary, T. Grant. The Waihi band played several, selections during the afternoon. The totalisator was worked by Mr Blomfield; 10/ tickets. Mr J. Graham was starter, and Mr Carnachan clerk of the course. Following are the results:—

Publicans' Purse of 25 soys., G furlongs. —38, R. Blaikie's b m Sly Miss, by Flintlock—Miss Sly, 8.4, 1; SJ, J. Jack's Nereid, 0.12, 2; 12, Teddy's Repetition, 7.12, 3. 32, The Frenchman, 7.4, also started. Sly Miss led all the way, arid won after a good finish with the other placed horses. Dividend, £1 'if.

Hack Race of 15 soys., seven furlongs. —07, J. McLeod's b g YVaimaru, aged, 8.7, 1; 70, A. J. Edward's Tessy, S'.O, 2; 22, Broberg's Wildfowler, 5.4, 3. 18, Starlight, 9.7; 11, Engineer, 5.7, also started. Won by six lengths. Dividend, £1 5/.

Waihi Cup of tK) soys., li miles.—lo A. Telfer's eh m Matamatahara.kek.o, by St. Leger— Belona, 4yrs., 7.8, 1; 139; F. Macmanemin's Bacchus, HA, 2; Gi), M. S. Lawrie's Zulieka, 7.7, 3. Zulieka went to ihe front In the first round, and then the two finished home over the last three furlongs, Matamataharakeke winning by two lengths, after a good race. Dividend. £1 7/.

Flying Handicap of 20 soys., five furlongs.—9, W. Penneli's The Waster, by Tetford—Lady Sterling, 7.0, 1; 84, J. Jack's Nereid, 7.4, 2; 33, Teddy's Repetition, 8.0, 3. 92, Klondyke, 5.12; 19, Cyclone, 7.0; 3, Retrench, 0.10; 16, Evert, G. 10; 7, Wildfowler, G.lO, also started. After a good race The Waster won by half a length. Dividend, £13 3/.

Handicap Hurdles of 30 soys., 13 miles. —50, H. Preston's b m Lightning, by Natator—Gladiator mare, 9.8, 1; 111, J. Jack's Tuni, 9.7, 2; 22, McCutcheon's Rille 11., 9.4, 3. 3G, Hamoa, 10.S; 4, Starlight, 9.5; 81, Capford,taUso started. Won under pressure by a head. Starlight fell. Dividend, £2 14/.

McCurdy Memorial Stakes of 35 soys., seven furlongs.—F. Mucmanemin's gr g Bacchus, by Castor—Vivandiere, syrs, S.G, 1; M. S. Lawrie's Zulieka, 7.10, 2; G. Frazer's The Frenchman, 7.2, 3. Won easily. Dividend, 19/.

Welter Handicap of 20 soys., one mile. —A. Telfer'a eh m Matamataharakeke, 8.6, 1; McCutcheon's Klngsman, 8.5, 2. These were the only starters, and the daughter of St. Leger won cleverly.
