MEETING WITH OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.
Last night the Minister for Mines met. the County Council at Paeroa, and discussed the question of the expenditure of Government grants for roads, the desire of the Minister being to provide temporary relief for those thrown out of work by^ the stoppage of railway and mining operations. It was arranged that the following grants be expended at once, in small contracts: PaeroaWaihi main road, £500; Golden Cross-Mara-toto road, £481; WivihiWlvangamata road, £250; Paeroa-Te Aroha road, £227; Tui mine track, £200; Waihi County boundary road, £400; Karanga'hake-Rotokohu road, £150; Koniata Creek road, £200; Karangahake mountain track, £100; Karangahake hill track, £100; Waitawheta road deviation, £300; Karangahake track, £100. These slims are given immediately under the special circumstances, and the County Council agreed to do everything possible to carry out the wishes of the Minister in providing employment for those in distress.
