WAIHI DEPUTATIONS.
WAIHI, Wednesday.
Before Mr McGowan left Waihi, Messrs C. Saunders and N. Z. Hazard waited upon him and asked for a grant towards putting in a road to Waihi beach, at the part known as Fraser's, some five miles from Waihi, which, if made easy of access, would prove a great boon to the public. Mr McGowan, al reply, said that an estimate had been struck for this work last session, but owing to other works being of more importance, and seeing that Government expenditure had to be retrenched, the estimate was not further considered. However, next session, if the matter was again presented, he would endeavour to bring about a vote for the purpose of this work.
Mr McGowan also stated that he intended to allow votes on the last estimate for county works in the district to be available at once, instead of next March. He would inform the County of the intention, and they could then call for tenders immediately. This would prove of great assistance to the unemployed. The amount so affected was something like £4000.
