Sales of hides, sheepskins, tallow, etc., were resumed after, the holidays, and heavy catalogues were offered. The competition was good throughout, and the bulk sold at closing rates of last year. Hides- Extra stout ox, from sijd to 6d; stout 5d to sßd; medium, 4id to 4|d; light, •W1 to 4d- cow, best dry salted, Hd to 4§d; wet 33d 't0- i&> seconds, 3d to 3Jd; kip, 3i]d to id-calf easier, best up to 4Jd; stag's, ?A to'o:d- damaged hides, Id to 21d per lb. Sheepskins: Local green and country salted, 6d to V, lambs', from 8d for small to 1/1 for good lines; dry, 3d to 4d; damaged Id to 3d each. Tallow: Best. 21/6 to 22/G; seconds, 17/ to 18/; inferior, 10/ to 12/ per cwt; rough f,"t, lid per lb. Hair- Horse tail, Hd to 1/1; mane, 7d to Sd per lb; cow tails, 1/6 to 1/9 per doz Bones: Best dry, £4 10/; seconds, £2 10/ to £3 per ton. . . Horns: Good lines of sound from 8/ to 10/: small. 3/ to 4/ per hundred; perished, 1/ to 2/ per sack.
ket Yards on Tuesday, and showed a decided upward tendency in prices. "Wethers sold from 12/6 to 16/; ewes,lo/6 to 14/3; lambs were well represented, and met a ready sale from 8/3 to 13/ each. Pigs were yarded in average numbers, and sold well; porkers brought from 19/ to 39/6. Owing to Wednesday being New Year's Day, we held our usual monthly sale at Papakura on Monday, 6th inst., and with the exception of grown steers there was a full muster of all classes. Dairy cows were somewhat easier, but young cattle improved from 5/ to 10/ per head on last month's prices. We quote grown steers from £5 ]2/6 to £6 15/; two to three year old do., £3 2/6 to £5 5/; heifers, £2 15/ to £3 12/0; fat cows, £4 10/ to £6 17/6; empty do., £2 17/ to £4 8/; calves, £1 to £2 3/; dairy cows, £4 5/ to £7 12/6. At Pukekohe on Wednesday there was an exceptionally large muster of all sorts, everything selling well up to Monday's prices. Hides: Market easier for lines of ox, except prime stout. We cleared a large catalogue at the following prices:—Prime stout ox, 6d to 7}d; stout, od to 5-d; light and medium, 4Jd to 4i;d; cow, best lines to 4',d; stout, to 4|d; kip, 3d to 4d; calf.sound 3;,! d to 4.', d; cut an dscored of all lines, Jd tj M less. Sheepskins sold at about late values. Full-woolied, 2/ to 2/8; pelis, salted Sd to 1/, dry 4d to Sd; lambs', salted Sd to 1/, dry 5d to 9d. Taliow: At late rates; prime mutton, 23/G; mixed in broken packages, 21/ li to 22/ C: seconds, 20/ to 21/. Hair: Best tail, Hid to 1/Oi; mixed, lOd to lid; cow hair, ll^d. Wool: The market remains steady. We have sold fine crossbred at from 4d to 4?, d; coarse crossbred, 2;] dto 3.id; shabby at less money. Maize: Good quality found ready sale at 2/3 per bushel on wharf; poorer samples, 2/ to 2/1, wholesale lines. Oats: Southern markets very firm. We quote shipments to arrive, 2/10 bushel on wharf, wholesale lines. Chaff: Stocks are light; good samples worth £3 7/6 per ton, at rail.
