RETURN OF MR P. R. DIX.
Mr P. R. Dix, proprietor of Dixs : Gaiety Companies, was a passengeq by the Waikare, which arrived to-day, , Regarding the artists who may be! expected here shortly, Mr Dix said tcr\ a "Star" representative to-day:-.
"First and foremost are the Dartos^ a couple of marvellous dancers, who first as the. stars of Mr Mnsgrove'g
comic opera and pantomime com. ponies, and subsequently with Mil Harry Rickards, created a sensation m the various States which they visited. Their dancing cannot be adequately; described, but you will soon be ablei to see them for yourself, as they left Sydney on Saturday for Dunedinj ; where'they will open on Saturday! next. This act alone entails an ex* pense of £300 a week, the big-gesij price 1 can safely say that has evefl been paid for a turn for New Zealand, On the same boat as the Dartos are) the Woodwrd Bros., a couple of cornermen and specialty artists, whq have, just concluded a season with) Air Rickards. They will open at Well ling-ton immediately on their arrival, The Worral Sisters, serio-comies, ar« rived by the Waikare, and will opes § here to-night. By next Wednesday's • boat Miss Lillie and Mr Herbert Bob-. ~ crts, a duo of high-class operatic balladists and duettists, are due, and! the Mowing week comes Alberto, ai clever young conjurer and illusionist^ Baby Capel, admittedly the cleverest juvenile dancer on the Australian; stage, and the Redheads, who have , a number of first-class acrobatic pans tomimic acts, are due tc -«W| >e Sydney. In addition to these fc cecureij the Latonas, who do a "musical tramp" act, and have been filling Mil Rickards' houses for some months.
Unfortunately, however, they cannot! come till 1903, as they are fully booked up in other parts of the world until that date. Madame Celma. Bone, a Parisian violiniste and xllophone player, will arrive shortly, and should make a great hit. She is the finest musician I have heard on the musichall stage. Mr Austin Eudd, who has also been booked for my circuit, is one of England's leading comic singers, and Little Eric, a pocket edition1 ;, of Air and Mrs E. J. Knowles, and tha only juvenile whom the veteran Chas. : Morton has ever engaged for a season at the London Palace, is excruciatingly funny, as you will admit when you I see him. The De Wynne Brothers are astonishingly clever acrobats and balancers. Mr Frank Leon holds the English championship belt for clog dancing, and is also a very capable character and comic vocalist. Miss Lizzie Kirk is an English soubrette with a big reputation. Mr Harry, Shine, the comedian, should be cor* dially welcomed, for as a patter comet y dian I have not heard his superior. ; Miss Violett" Elliott is a contralto with a beautiful voice, which she uses artis* ; tically. Mr Eodda Perry, a male alto, I has a. remarkable voice, and has star- ~ red Australia with the NewburySpada Co. with enormous success. « Zobedie, I secured for a visit prior to I his return to America, and last —but I not least—for the present I must * conclude with an announcement o? the engagement of that popular eoine* ■< dian Mr Chas. Fanning, and of Miss. Jeamiie Opie and Mr Ernest Fitrts. i Johnson Eiano and Bentley, who are | as you know already in the coj.ony, and shortly open here, are one of tha funniest of Mr Bickards' importa- ,
tions.
