NORTH SHORE (4 goals) v. PONSONBY B (4 goals).
Richardson and Harris set the ball going, and the Shore attack made a dangerous onslaught on the opposing; goal, but were repulsed by Bourke and Cooke. Play was fairly even for a short time, and then Shore attacked again with success, the ball going into the net from Miller's crosse. Only a short time elapsed before the blue and blacks, through Braiflhewaite's agency, made, the scores even. Both teams worked with great determination, and for about fifteen minutes some fast and interesting play took place. By fast following up Eagleton, jun., secured Shore's second goal. Soon after Braithwaite retaliated for the blue and blacks, but the scores were unaltered when the spell w^s sounded. Commencing again, Ponsonby's forward players jjave the opposing defence lots to do, but through being ovor-anxious to score a few easy chances were thrown away. A long throw by Ward removed the scene of action to the other end of the field, and Eagleton, jun., netted a goal. Ponsonby once more attacked, on this occasion successfully. Braithwaite, by a fine shot, making matters even. A few minutes elapsed, and then Hodges got his side a lead of one goal, Which was maintained until two minutes before call of time. Shore pressed hard in. the last five minutes, and a mistake in throwing by one of the Ponsonby defence gave Bladder an easy opening, and he shot an unquestionable goal, which made the scores 4 all. Mr Pearce gave general satisfaction in the capacity of referee. NOTES. .Ponsomby had unfortunate luck in not winning, for they certainly had the best of the play in the second half, and had Dow been a reliable thrower Bladder would never have scored the goal that made the game a draw. Eagleton, in goal for North Shore, played as soundly as iisual and stopper numerous hard shots. Blackler and Ward were the pick of the men in the open. Richardson was not in his usual trim. His vis-a-vis, Harris, paid too much attention to him. Kelly and Miller were often conspicuous for useful work. Of the Ponsonby division Braithwaite was the pick, the three goals he scored being got by clever play. Bourke was in good form in the defence, and his play was far ahead of that of his confreres. Cossar. for his maiden game, shaped splendidly. Hodges will soon be a player above the average. Of the rest, Harris, Graham and Bartlett were the most prominent.
