LA CROSSE.

iPA'RiNELIi AND GRAiFTONi

SUCCESSFUL-.

PONSONBY B AND NORTH SHORE PLAY A D'RAW-N GAME.

For the fourth Saturday in succession la crosseurs were greeted with very bud weather and a ground altogether* against good pl*y. A fair gathaving of onlookers braved the elements. The opening" awtohea of the second round were played. Parnell had an easy win over the Suburbs' team, who were without the service* of several of their best men. The best Fought contest of the day was between North Shore avid Ponsonby B, and it ended in a draw, the latter team leading until the last two minutes of play, when the Shore men managed to make honours even. Grafton again proved to b(>. a good team on the heavy going by scoring' an easy victory over Orey Lynn. Afternoon tea was provided by the North Shore Club, assisted by lady friends.

PAENOSLiL (10 goals) v. SUBURBS (1 goal). The maroons placed a strong team in the field, whereas their opponents were numerically weak. Ruddock and Somerfield commenced operations, and ten minutes of fairly even play followed; then Dennison drew first Blood for l'aruell. From this until time sounded the maroons smothered the Suburbans and*ran up the total of 16 goals against their opponents' 1. The i contributors to Parnell's score were | Graham (7), Ruddock (2), McKnight (2), Ward (2), Fairburn (2), and Dennison (1). Somerfield scored for Suburbs. Mr 11. McCoy was referee.

The Suburbans are to be complimented for the manner in which they f.tuck to their guns until the finish, fn I he last quarter of an hour play was slightly in their favour, and they had hard luck in not scoring several times. Mair, Brown, Somerfield and Owen played most vigorously throughout. The combination of the Parnell twelve has much improved since the beginning of the season, and it will not come as a surprise if the maroons defeat some of the leading teams in the second round. The most prominent in Saturday's game were Graham, McKnight, Power, Ruddock and Ward.
