From the statement ma.de up for the insurance companies which had issued policies over Messrs Anthony Hordern and Sons' buildings, fittings, and stock, it appears that the total amount insured for was £394,718. Of this amount, £339,418 is covered in Australian offices, or offices doing business in Australia. Jind the, remainder, £55.300, is in London offices, which do not have branches in Australia.
Thjs amounlt, it jrnay bo stated, covers the. whole of the firm's buildings at the Hay market, so that the sum includes risks over such portions of the premises as the grocery and ironmongery departments, which were not destroyed by the lire, in the same way as were the other bui.'dings and contents.
