(Received 9.0 a.m.)
LONDON, July 22
The Admiralty is not sanguine with reference to the possibility of acquiring Kerguelen Island from France.
[Kerguelen Island is in the Indian Ocean, considerably south of the track of vessels from the Cape to Australia. The island is about equal distant from Australia and South Africa.]
