PARNELL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Paruell Borough Council was held at the Council Chambers last evening. Mr H. Campbell, Mayor, presided, and Crs. Briggs, Fitt, Pctford, Brook, Thomas, MacCormick, Gilmore and Cozens were also present.
Permit.-.Mr VV. l'.lyth wrote requesting a permit for a building in Strand Lane. The application was opposed on the ground that the allotment would not allow of the building being erected at the necessary distance from the middle of the street. The Mayor pointed out that the permit could not be declined and that a meeting would have to be held to frame by-laws to meet such cases. It was decided to decline the permit pending the opinion of the Council's solicitor on the powers of the Council to prevent undesirable buildings being erected in the borough.
Crescent Koad.—A complaint as to the condition of Crescent Koad was referred to the foreman of works, with power to act.
Lighting-.—The Electric. Tramway Company offered to provide electric lighting for the borough. The matter was referred to the Legal Committee.
Russell-street.—The foreman of works was instructed to repair the side walks of Eussell-street und Russell Lane.
Water Supply.—^The turncock reported the consumption of water for the fortnight to have been 014,000 gallons.
Tramways.—The Streets Committee reported that the rail levels and material to be used between the lines were satisfactory, and it was therefore decided to sign the deed of delegation.
