CITY OF AUCKLAND STREETS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Your recent article on the state of the streets of Auckland v/as very timely. The late energetic Mayor no doubt did all that could be done with the funds at his disposal. The. late Mayor has said that other pressing works would have been carried out if funds had been available. Your otherwise able article did not suggest from what source additional revenue should be collected. This seems to. me to be the first matter that should be attended to. The several correspondents who admired your late article seemed to miss this important point. It would be interesting to know how yourself, Mr. Editor, or any of your correspondents, propose to raise extra revenue so as to put the. streets in good order.—l am, etc., THOMAS CAELESS.
