The City Engineer, who was instructed at the last meeting of the City Council to proceed at once with the repairing of Queen-street, has reported that he cannot begin to carry out the work until the steam roller is available, which will be in about three weeks' time. The local secretary for Trinity College, London, reports the following entries received by ham for the examination in instrumental and vocal music to be held at Auckland about October next:—Preparatory,, grade, 31; Junior division, 37; Intermediate division, 34; Senior division, 8; higher grade, 2; total, 112. The entries are mostly for pianoforte playing; seven . are for violin-playing, and three for singing.
