The contract for filling engine and horse trucks at the Waihi Company's mine has been let again at a higher figure. Some of the previous contract* ors state that the work involved in this contract is the hardest they have j-et undertaken. The Waihi Corn-
pany's contract for taking out a block of quartz on the Welcome reef between No. 3 and 4 stopes was let to Lewis and party at a rate of 3/10 per ton.' Thompson and party, who were the first contractors in the mine for this class of work, took a contract for getting out a block at 4/SJ.
