The inquest on the five victims of the fire at the Grand Hotel on May 31st was continued at, the Central Hotel yesterday afternoon after we
went to press
John Craven, who had been boarding at the hotel, continuing his evidence, deposed that it was quite twenty minutes from the time he. reached the street until the fire brigade arrived.
James Grover, head waiter at the Grand Hotel, deposed that there was no fire in the dining-room grate. When he left the room that night he left one gas jet burning, which it was Middleton's duty to turn out when he locked the dining-room for the night. Witness was off duty after 7.30 that evening. He returned to the hotel about five minutes to eleven, being admitted by the night porter. The inquest was adjourned at 4 p.m. until to-day, the Coroner having to attend another inquest at the Asylum.
