PARNELL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr H. Campbell) presided, and there were also present Crs. Fitt, Tewsley, Uilinour, McCormack, Thomas, Petford, and Cozens.

Tramways.—Mr P. Hansen forwarded for signature the deed of delegation in connection with the construction of the electric tramways system. It was decided upon receipt of the approval of the Council's) solicitors to sign and seal the deed.

Drainage.—Mr Percy Ward, the Council's engineer, reported that during the past month the repairs to old sewers had been confined to the western gully sewer, of which 482 feet had been repaired. The cost in the western gully had been £58 10/, in the eastern gully £522 19/4. In the Hobson Buy outlet laoo feet of 18-inch pipe had been laid, with 285 feet of trench prepared. The expenditure here h;id been £ 594 8/2.

Plan.—The Mayor reported that there would be a surplus on the drainnge account of about £1000. He suggested thnt a plan of the borough, showing sub-division, with tracings showing drainage and water supply, should be prepared. The suggestion was agreed to.

Contagions Disease.—A case of scarlet fever was reported by Dr. R. N. Adams in Alpha Road. A similar case was reported from Henley-street. Mechanics' Bay.—The city engineer complained of the silting up of the sewer in Mechanics' Hay, principally from the cess-pit at the foot of Alphastreet. The matter was referred to the Council's engineer. Russell-street.—On the motion of Cr. Thomas it was decided to call the attention of Messrs J. Martin and Co. to the improper use of Russell-street and to the nuisance caused there by leakage.

Water Supply.—The turncock reported the consumption of water for the past fortnight to have been 823,000 gallons. "

Finance.—General accounts, £114 10/2, drainage accounts, £71 8/7, were passed for payment.
