Accident Risk.—The N.Z. Accident Insurance Company wrote pointing out the Council's liability under recent legislation for any accident that might occur to workmen employed by the Council. It was resolved to tike out a policy for £500.

Fire Brigade.—The Xewmarket Fire Brigade notified that Mr Geo. Prince had been elected captain of the brigade for the next twelve months. The appointment was approved of. The Parnell Fire Brigade wrote asking for payment of £3 4/ for the attendance of the brigade at the recent fire in Kyber Pass Eoad. Mr Davis said that much more property would have been destroyed if it had not been for the help of the Parnell Brigade. Afr Lnxon emphasised the bad state of the Council's hose, and moved that the amount be paid. It was resolved to do this, under the special circumstances of the case.

Tramway Delegation. —The attorney of the Auckland Electric Tramway Company forwarded a deed of delegation to be signed by the Council. Mr Hesketh, the Council's solicitor, was present, and said signature of the deed had been deferred for three reasons: —(1) The question as to whether the Council were responsible for the alteration to the levels at the bridge in Kyber Pass Road. (2) The question of erecting an arc lig-ht at the entrance to Newmarket Railway Station. With regard to the bridge approaches, he was of opinion that the Council was liable for them. As to the other questions, the company had agreed to erect the arc light at the station entrance, subject to the company obtaining a concession for the lighting of the district, and had inserted a proviso in the agreement for the payment of rates by them. Mr Hesketh advised the Council to sign the deed forthwith. In reply to a .question by Mr Angns, Mr Hesketh said the Council had novr a voice in the location of the stopping places for the cars. The deed was then signed by the Mayor and Messrs Laxon and Edgerley, on behalf of the Borough.
