CONCILIATION BOARD.

TO-DAY'S PROCEEDINGS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

ARATAPU, Saturday.

The Hoard sat through yesterday and examined Edward Warming-ton, working two jigger saws at Kopuru, who had experience at other mills.

John Todd, who for five years worked at bush mills at Westland, said eight hours was general there, and the wages higher. George Sharp, first carpenter at Kopuru, deposed the work was heavy on tools, and a kit cost about £25. The weekly average cost of up-keep was 2/ and upwards. He was an experienced house carpenter and shipwright, and considered mill carpenters required extra knowledge. He had sometimes worked to 4 on Sunday morning. He considered the Union's claim very moderate. The Board opened at 0 o'clock today. William Irwin, slipman at Aoroa, was examined. The hours worked were 6.15 to 11.30, and 12.30 to 5. He rose at 5.15, and got his own breakfast. His wages were insufficient, and his wife worked to supplement them. The night shift worked ten hoars 48 minutes for five days each week.
