In a cricket match Yorkshire dismissed Nottingham for 13 runs on a drying wicket at Nottingham. Ehodes took six wickets for four runs and Haig four for eight.
Mr Justice Mathew has decided that the Peninsular and Orient Company is bound to provide for Lascars the sam« accommodation as for other seamen. He laid it down that the Merchant Shipping Act, not the Indian Act, governed the accommodation question. The Peninsular and Orient Company were bound to provide crew space for Lascars in accordance with the English 'Act. There was no exclusive legislation for Lascars.
The French Consul informed a "Sunday Times" interviewer that the French were the first to take possession of the New Hebrides, and they intended to stick to the islands and prove that they were masters. The proximity of the islands to New Caledonia made them important. France would object to any other Power taking possession.
