At a general meeting of the Auckland Rowing Club held on Friday evening last, Mr C. C. Dacre, owe pf the club's oldest members still resident in Auckland, was elected a life member, in recognition of his past services to the club. Mr Dacre has always been one of the club's stauftchest supporters. The club holds'its annual smoke concert on Friday evening next in the Masonic Hall, Princesstreet, and judging from the interest displayed by the members, and by the programme which has been prepared, the function should be up to the club's usual standard. Writing from on board frhe steamer' Lady Norman on the 15th instant, n passenger describes a somewhat perilous experience in regard to that vessel. It appears that the steamer is under engagement to make a voyago to the Solomon Islands for the purpose of recruiting labour. The vessel hit Bundaberg, having on board a Government agent and 30 kanakas who were returning to the islands, whs*l suddenly the propeller shaft snapped and the steamer started drifting. T< was at this critical period thai: the steamer Lady Musgrave hove in eight and bore down to the recruiter's assistance, eventually taking her in fc<w to Burnett Heads, where the Lady Norman was saMy anchored. It wn.^ a piece of good fortune that the rescuing steamer ohanocd to belong to tho game owner as the Lady Norman, thus forestalling a considerable salvage claim. The Lady Norman is an iron steamer of 176 tons and was built in 1884 n.t Maryborough,
