CONCILIATION BOARD.

ARATAPU, this day.
The Conciliation Board opened at Aratapu at nine yesterday, to hear the dispute between the Auckland Timber Workers' Union and their employers". There were present: The Chairman (Rev. A. H. Collins), Messrs J. Fawcus, W. F. Lucas and L. Bagnail. The Union was represented by Messrs J. Stalhvorthy (president), P. Phillips, secretary, and J. Howlett. The employers present were Mr T. H. White', of Auckland Kauri Timber Co., for Sawmillers' Union, Messrs F. Mander (Manders and Bradley), T. Bars tow (for Mitchelson Timber Co. and others), J. Trounsen, Mr Bagnall, member of Board, is also amongst the employers cited. Mr Stalhvorthy opened the case for the Union at some length, showing the inequality of hours and pay at different mills, also some peculiar practices said to' exist at the present time. He claimed that the Union demand would benefit employers generally as well as the workers. Edward Warmington was the first witness.1
