CABLE BREVITIES.
An accident to the propeller of the Antarctic exploration steamer Discovery has made a postponement of her vojrage necessary. Captain Thompson, of the Australian Horse, directs the pageant at the military tournament in London illustrating the inauguration of the Commonwealth. An intended interpellatum in the French chamber with reference to the Metz incident has been withdrawn. A conference of eminent jurists to discuss the formation of an Imperial Appellate Court meets at the end of J^ine. Mr Chamberlain will preside. It is expected its deliberations will be brief. Queen Helena of Italy has given birth to a daughter. The by-election for the Saffron WaJden division of Essex to replace the Hon. A. Wodehonse (Liberal), deceased, resulted as follows:—W. .
