Mr T. Scott, the owner, accompanied his ■chaser Plain Bill from New Plymouth on Saturday.
■). Redmond, who rides Blackberry in liis engagements, brought that horse from Napier, arriving by Sunday's boat.
Captain Russell's horse Coeur de Lion arrived at Ellerislie in charge of R. Gooseinan on Sunday; also H. Moore, Ids rider.
Rags is another Napier-owned horse that came from Napier. Dave Munn is training the son of Quilt.
Major George will nominate Seahorse and Shellback for the New Zealand Cup to-day.
The Messrs Nathan will not have anything engaged in the New Zealand Cup this year.
The trainers at Ellerslie say there has been less schooling of horses there this winter than formerly.
The most seasoned looking horse. 1; that have arrived from the South so far are Hinau, Coeur tie Lion, Moifaa, and Sundial. Coeur de Lion is none too sound, however.
Plain Bill, though apparently in very good form, looks as if mori: racing would do him good. There are many who fancy he will be handy tit the finish of the Great Northern Steeplechase all the same.
Blackberry, who has not raced for a long time, is one of those that look very well considering his long1 speil, and' lie may not unlikely run a good race on Saturday.
W. Holmes, who rode Tukapa in the race at Egmont for which he was disqualified, had not heard anything of the matter when Mr R. Gooseman. in whose employ he is, left Napier, and, indeed, the first information the Napier trainer received on this head was on reading the "Star" on his arrival at Ellerslie.
