The criminal sitting's concluded yesterday. Horatio Nelson Firth, clerk of the Co&rt at Queenstown, came up for sentence for embezzling- £600, moneys received as mining registrar, etc. It was- stated that restitution of the full amount had been made. Counsel asked that accused be let off with a fine. Mr Justice Williams said the case was a sad one, but he must pass an adequate sentence, which was twelve months, with hard labour.
