MR. HUDSON'S APPOINTMENT,
RESULTS TN A NO-CONFIDENCE
DEBATE.
(Received 9.55 a.m.)
HOBART, this day.
In the Legislative Assembly Mr. Patterson moved the adjournment of the House to complain of the appointment of Mr. Charles Hudson, of New Zealand, as general manager of Tasmanian railways. He considered the appointment of a New Zealander an injustice to the local claimant for the position. After a lengthy discussion, in which a majority of the speakers condemned the appointment of an outsider, the motion was withdrawn by Mr. Patterson. Mr. Patterson subsequently moved, "That the action of the Government in overlooking1 the claims of Mr. McCormack as general manager of rail-ways did not meet with the approval of the House;" Ministers accepted this as a motion of" want-of-confidence, and the House adjourned till to-morrow.
