CHRISTCHURCH, this day.
The indictment against Annie Hood, charged with perjury, is being heard before Judge Cooper this morning. Accused is the wife of R. W. Hood, who was acquitted on Monday on a similar charge, arising out of a wages case heard in Culverden. ■ A verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest on James Weatherell, whose gun exploded while he was getting through a fence at Kangiora.X The hearing of the charge against Mrs Hood has been concluded. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty without retiring. WELLINGTON, this day. The Chief Justice gave judgment today in the case Bnnnaiyne and Co. v. the Collector of Customs, for the return by the Crown of £300, which the firm, as agents for the Tyser line, paid as poll tax on three Chinese members of the crew of the Indralema, who are alleged to have landed in the colony.
