KAURI GUM MARKET
SUMMARY REPORT
Although business generally speaking has been somewhat dull since last report, still the market for kauri gum has shown signs of improvement the last few days. Black and poor black have had strong demand, and one 40 ton line changed hands this week. Better grades of gum, however, show little improvement so far. Another party of 50 Austrians left this we-ek, which should tend to further lessen the supplies of gum sent in. With steadily decreasing supplies at this end and considerably lessened exports to both London and New York, this year, it would seem as if it should not be long before the markets all round should be regulated so as to be on a steady basis once more. Exports since last mail are: To San Francisco, per Sonoma, 1 ton; to New York, per Indramayo, 36 tons; per Chas. G. Rice (estimated), 521 tons; to Europe, per Elingamite, 5 tons, Waikare 80 tons, Paparoa 36 tons, Indramayo 39 ton 9; total 718 tons. Supplies from" mail to mail (14 days) are about 237 tons.
