NORTHERN BOWLING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Northern Bowling Association was held at the Wellington Chib's pavilion last Friday night, Captain Edwin presiding1. Tn regard to the Gisborne tournament, it was reported that four clubs —Whataupoko, Ponsonby, Newmarket and Wellington—had tied for second place, but the contest could not be fought out owing to rain. The prize was four pairs of ivory-mounted bowls, and it was decided that on 3 pair should be awarded to each club. The resolutions passed by the Australasian Bowling1 Association were considered at length. The meeting agreed with the resolutions regardIng bowls being of the bias fixed by the Scottish Bowling Association; also regarding the length of heads (60 feet), and as "blocks" being not less than 20 feet from the mat. The Association refused, however, to agree to the resolution stating that touches in the side ditch are to be regarded as "alive," and decided to adhere to its own rule that all bowls in the side ditch and all bowls oxit of bounds are dead. It was decided that the next tournament be hold at Wellington; and 20th January, 1903, was fixed as the probable date. The meeting, it was stated, is likely to be the largest ever held in the colony, and it was decided that in .addition to the inter-club matches, which are played club against club, to a finish, pairs and singles tournaments shall be held at the same time. The matter of rules and conditions will be considered at a subnequent meeting-.
