It is estimated thnt the paving of the Wellington footpaths to their full width will cost £49,000. TEACHERS" SALATHES. Several of the alterations in the scale of teachers proposed by the Wellington Education Board have been approved by the Minister of Education, who, however, suggests that pupil teachers should be remunerated as follows:— First yeav £20. second year £30, third year £40, fourth yeav £50 (with a lodging allowance of £10 where pupil teachers have to reside away from 'home). "T 4 . is proposed that ex-pupil; teachers should bs regarded as fourth year pupil teachers. The "Minister, states that he is unable to allow the amount set down as the salaries of certain new positions which the Board intends to create in some of tbe larger schools. Although the .contemplated improvement of the staifing of these schools is ;i necessary one", it is not considered that the payment of the i whole salaries of these new positions • should be effected by means of a vote: for increases to teachers' salaries in the Wellington district. In the prebnble event of the Board agreeing to ■ the revised schedule now submitted, j The amount available for the quarter will be paid over forthwith.
