NEWMARKET.

Nominations for the Mayoralty and Council for the boroug-h of Newmarket closed last evening. The present Mayor, Mr John McColl, was re-elected unopposed, and as the number nominated for the Council was equal to the number of vacant seats the returning officer, Mr Hogg, declared the following Council duly elected: —Messrs J. Angus, F. Bennett, J. R Caston, E. Davis, W. Edgerly, J. Kennedy, J. M. Laxon, A. E. Soccombe and A. 0. Shipherd. The Mayor at the Council meeting returned thanks for his reelection, and it was decided to send a letter of thanks to each of the retiring Councillors.
