Several matters in connection with the law professional examination* were referred to the Law Committee. Dr. Fitchett was elected a member of the Finance Committee for the year during the absence of Dr< Grace. , ' The Senate resumed its sitting ao 10 a.m. to-day, Sir James Hector, (Chancellor) presiding. The Registrar (Mr Joynt) reaS several applications which had been, received for the positions of examiners of the University. This matter gave rise to considerable discussion, the majority of members being of opinion that it would be better not to encourage canvassing for appointments as examiners. Mr L. Cohen moved, and Dr. McGregor seconded:! "That as an intimation that the Senate does not approve ol applications, being made to it for examinerships, the letters be not received." Mr Cohen and Dr. McGregor said this sort of thing was the beginning^ of a veryi objectionable practice, and it was not fair to other men whov although will- ■.. ing to act and possessing the neces*" sary ability, did not go so far as to send in applications. Mr Cohen said - the resolution would be an intimation; that this practice henceforth WduiV:* that this practice was not acceptable to the Senate. The Chancellor Said* the receiving of such applications was not opposed to the past practice Of tha Senate. > • Mr Cohen's motion was carried DJI ; 11 votes to 7. The Senate then adjourned till 10 a.m. on Monday, in order to allow tha various committees .to proceed with; their deliberations.
