LETTER FROM BA DEN-POWELL.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WANG ANUT, this, day

An interesting letter has been received by the native chief Takarangi Mete Ki'ngi, from Major-General Ba-den-Powell, acknowledging receipt of a Maori relic of prehistoric value, sent on the occasion of the relief of Mafeking. In the course of the letter General Powell says: "It was a great surprise to all in Mate Icing after the. relief to find the defence there had been so highly thought of by their fellow-countrymen. I fear my own share of the defence lias been over-rated."
