ST. PAUL'S
Memorial services were held at St, Paul's Church both morning andj evening. Canon Nelson officiated at both services. In the morning his text was I. Chronicles xxix., 28. The rev. gentleman said that the Queen's jj simple resolve, "I will be good/ was 1 first and foremost in her life. To be* o-ood rather than great, to be true rather than politic, to be worthy, toj be called Queen from genuine deser-| ving rather than from the tinsel trap-^ pings of royalty-such was her simple;; aim. We should thank God for herj bright example, for His many mercies- ( vouchsafed to her and us, His peopled as well as hers, and while we cried) "God Save the King," pray Him that: her mantle may fall uponi| her successor. . The hymns sung dur-jj ing the service were 400, 184, and 264, | while the Litany was sung to Barn-^ by's setting. The "Dead March" wasplayed at the beginning, and the Na-t, tional Anthem at the end of the ser-, vice. At the evening service the), quartette, "Blest are the Departed." ; (Spohr) was sung by the choir, and ' Menclelssohn's "Be Thou Faithful* Unto Death" was given as an offer- £. tory solo. i
