THE ATTITUDE OP AUSTRALIA.

(By Telegraph.-* Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, this day.

Mr. Ward has received three replies to telegrams sent to PostmastersGeneral and leading men of the Australian Colonies regarding the admittance of penny postage New Zealand letters in Australia. The PostmastersGeneral o;f Western Australia and Tasmania acknowledge receipt of Mr. Ward's communications, but regret that pending action by the Commonwealth Parliament on postal matters the Westralian Government cannot- decide the question at present. An important reply has also been received from Mr. Barton, Federal Premier,-but its nature will not be disclosed until the communication is received from Sydney.
