DRURY RACING CLUB.
The Drury Racing Club held their second annual race meeting on .Thursday last at the pleasure grounds adjoining tno Drury Hotel, and were favoured with line weather. The attendance numbered about 700, a. good many going up from Auckland by train. Mr Brookes as judge, Mr Harding as starter, Mr _w. Morton as clerk of scales, and Mr S. J. McGonagle (secretary), all worked hard to bring about the succ&ss attained, an<i each event was run oft! punctually to time. The stakes won will be paid out by the treasurer, Mr A. Fulleng, mine host of the Drury Hotel, on a date to be advertised in a future issue. The following are the results of the different events:— Handicap Hurdles, 11 miles—Muriwai, 12.12, 1; Puriri, 10.7, 2; Wild Rose, 10.0, 3. Won after a close contest by a length, third horse some distance away. Maiden Handicap, 1 mile.—Victress 1, Kruger 2, Robin 3. Won easily. Drury Cup, one mile and a-quarter.— Mr A. Barker's b g Muriwai, 11.7, 1; Mr D. J. Ryan's Puriri, 9.0, 2; Mr A. Smith's Pretty Boy, 10.10, 3. Muriwai, who was; better ridden, managed to beat Puriri' after a good race, the third horse being close up. Pony Race, six furlongs. — Victress %■ Blackbird 2, Eileen 3. Victress got away first and won by four lengths. .'
Bombay Handicap, one mile.—Wild Rose, 9.4, 1; Kruger, 8.7, 2. Puriri and Cupel fell in this race and the rider of Pretty Boy pulled up the first time round, when leading, thinking he had won.
Handicap Trot, 17. miles.—The Flirt, 18s, 1; No Name, 40s, 2; Tommy Atkins, 20s, 3, A good race between the placed horses.
Flying Handicap, six furlongs.—Murlwai, 11.10, 1; Starlight, 8.7, 2; Prefty Boy. 11.2, 3. Won by a nose on the post, Muriwai just getting- up in the last stride. A dog on the course caused Wild Rose to fall, the jockey, Sharp, getting a nasty shock and remaining- unconscious for over four hours.
