CONCLUDING DAY'S RACES.
On Wednesday the three principal events to be decided will be the Royal Strjfzs, Auckland Steeplechase and Plate. The former should give rise to an exceedingly good contest, as all the- crack two and three-year-olds are engaged. Mr Stead looks like playing £» very «trong hand, as the Southern sportsman has Field Battery, Mensehikoff and Formosan to represent him, and I fancy Mensehikoff will have most to say in the settlement of the question, while most opposition may come from the Hon. J. D. -Ormond's Renown.
In the Steeplechase the field promises to be not too large, but there is sufficient material for a fine contest. Nor1-west has many good deeds to recommend him' over this course, but at the same time tbe son of Sou-wester has na" /shown up well recently, and it may "be he is not quite at his best, although he is sure to render a good account of himself. Cannongatc is a greatly improved hcrse, and a, jfiiie natural jumper, while another who v.-ill be quite at home over the Ellerslie course is Dingo, and I think that he or the son of Cannon will -win the cross-country race.
Tn the Auckland Plate T don't think there is anything to defeat Advance.
