Two first-offending' "drunks" were convicted and discharged. James Thomas Trueman, lor being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart, was fined 40/ or 14 days' hard labour. James Welsh, for being1 drunk, was fined £1 or seven days' hard labour. He was also found guilty of resisting1 the police, and was similarly penalised, the sentences to be cumulative. Maud Hartnell and Mary Grace, for fighting1 in Victoria-street, were each fined 10/ or 48 hours' hard labour. George Heighway, charged with begging in Grey-street, was convicted and sentenced to one month's hard labour. James lieid was found guilty of committing- an indecent act in Customsstreet, and with, resisting- the police in the execution of their duty. On the first count he was sentenced to seven days' hard labour, and on the second to one month's hard labour. Frederick Smith, charged with stealing- a boat and its contents, valued at £ 32, the property of A. McNair, was remanded to the sth of January, bail being allowed. Annie Martin, found by night without lawful excuse on the premises of Mrs Williams, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour.
