THE ROYAL COMMISSION.
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON-, this day
I find I was a little premature in announcing in a previous telegram that Mr J. Allen, M.H.R. for Bruce, had accepted a position on the Midland Railway Commission in lieu of Captain Russell. Mr Allen is at present out of town, but his representative has sent on telegrams addressed to him, and the result will be made known shortly. There is good grounds for hoping that he will see his way to accept the offer made to him, for, besides his knowledge of defence matters, he has shown himself in and out of Parliament to be a most capable financier and energetic man of business.
The Hon. the Acting-Premier, Mr J. G. Ward, has asked the Federation Commission to meet In Wellington on the tenth for the purpose of mapping out the itinerary, etc. The statement that Colonel Pitt, M.L.C., has accepted the position of Chairman of the Federal Commission is confirmed.
