LORD HOPETOUN'S MESSAGE.

The Victoria has sailed for Adelaide, escorted by H.M.s. Royal Arthur.
Lord Hopetoun left the following" message: "People of Australia, —It is with feelings of pleasure and pride I greet the people of Unite/I Australia. 1 am very deeply conscious of the responsibility that rests upon my shoulders in being' selected as the first representative of Her Majesty of this great Commonwealth. I regret I should reach its shores with my health temporarily' impaired. . I regret also that a serious illness, from which she is now mercifully recovering, prevents my wife, sharing the welcome which I know awaits me on landing at the seat of Government. I earnestly trust; by God's blessing, we will both be shortly restored.to health, and be able to give our best energies, bbtli mental and physical, to tiie services of the natio2i we so sincerely respect and love. ~-■ )
In the course of an Interview Lord Hopetoun said he was delighted to return to Australia. The years he spent here before were the happiest of his life. He added that there was great, delight in Great Britain when the colonies entered the Union. LONDON, December C. It is officially announced that the Imperial , Representative <?orps will probably leave Sydney on January 7, and spend 4S hours in Melbourne on the homeward journey. ■ MELBOURNE, this day. The admiral has received a -wire stating that Lord Hopetoun is too weak to tranship at Fremantle from his steamer to the Royal Arthur. He will proceed to Adelaide, where he will join the warship, and will fix the date of his landing- at Sydney when he reaches Adelaide. It will probably be December 15. : ■
