THE TAKAPUNA MEETING.

NOTES ON THE FORM.

Two days' better racing has not been ■seen in Auckland than that provided on the two days of the Takapuna Jockey ! Club Spring Meeting. The events were keenly fought out at the finish, and the fields were good all throivsh. During the two days a sum of £15.594 was invested on the totalistitors, which is £IS9S in excess of last year. The respective figures are:— 1599 1900 First day.... £6C52 -. £fiS7S Second day.. 7344 .. 9018 £13,990 .. £15,894 In the Hurdle Race on Saturday Troubadour ran a really good race, and it is the best bit of form the West Coast gelding has shown us during his many visits to Auckland. St. Peter and Hastings fought out a great battle in the Spring Handicap, and only a neck separated them as they passed She judg3's box locked together. The connections of Hastings were very confident that' the gelding would succeed, and coming into the home turn it did certaiyly look a "good thing" for him. St. Pet/.- showed a great dash of brilliancy and finished up ' his task very gamely. The Steeplechase attracted 12 runners. Cannongate put up a splendid performance in the» event, winning under 11.4. It makes his prospects of winning the Summer Steeplechase look bright.
