FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND V. TARANAKI.

TO-MORROWS GAME.

The interprovincial match, Auckland v. Taranaki ■will be played to-morrow, will be the thirteenth contest between the .two provinces. Of the twelve matches in the past Auckland has won six, Taranaki has won three, and the remaining three have been drawn. Auckland suffered defeat in ISS7, 1894, and IS9G, the last two defeats being' somewhat severe. In 1896 Taranaki won at Epsom by 16 to nil, but next year, at New Plymouth, Auckland secured a brilliant victory by 23 points to 3. In the next year, IS9B, the two teams met at Epsom, 'and a splendid struggle- ended in a draw, neither side scoring-. Last year the two teams met at New Plymouth, and Auckland won bylS points to 3. The contests between the provinces have always evoked considerable interest, and, with fine weather to-morrow, a fine game should be witnessed. Taranaki have suffered defeat three times this season, at the hands of Wangnnui, Wellington and Otago. In the last two games, however, the reports lead us to believe that TaranaM were by no means outclassed, so that their ill-succes is no criterion of their form in to-morrow's match. THE AUCKLAND TEAM. The last practice of the players selected by Mr Arneil was held last evening.. The absentees were McGregor(at the Thames.), McPike, and O. Riley, the latter beingunable to play. After the practice the following team was chosen to represent Auckland against Taranaki at Potter's Paddock to-morrow:— Full-back, D. Hay; three-auarters, Absolum, McGregor, Harrison; fiveeight'hs, As'her; half-back, Kiernan; wing forwards, Gallaher and Doran; forwards, Brady, Irvine, Cunningham, McMillan, McGregor, A. Wilson and H. Wilson. The absence of G. Tyler from the team is due to an injured leg.
