THE STOKE SCHOOL SCANDAL.

NELSON, Monday,

- A crowded public meeting was held to consider the Commissioners' report and the Government proposals for reform in connection wit*h St. Mary's School. The following resolution was passed, "That in view of the disclosures made the meeting appeals to the Government to "withdraw all financial support from this and similar institutions not under direct control of the State, and the meeting pledges itself to support members of Parliament endeavouring1 to secure such reform." The meeting lasted three hours. Much hostile feeling was evinced towards the management of the institution. The speakers acknowledged that .the resolution involved all -Protestant and similar . institutions being brought under direct State control and considered this desirable.
